Suzhou, China Thailand made it three in – a – row at the world RoboCup 2008 competition in china July 20, 2008, when it Chulalongkorn University Team swept aside the challenge of its three rivals in the finals. A tank-shaped robot, plasma RX, developed by a team of students at the University’s Engineering Faculty, proved too skillful when it came to moving along a rugged and bumpy surface to reach victims of a mock disaster scene during the rescue event.
Team leader Naowarat Termthanasombat Said then found Pressure as their major obstacle as Thailand was the defending Champion.
The Two Previous title, in 2006 at Germany and 2007 at USA, were won by a team from the King Mongkut’s University of Technology North Bangkok’s Prachin Buri Campus.
Siam Cement Group (SCG) is financial support for build a Rescue Robot Plasma RX.
They developed software that enables the robot to locate victims more precisely using a camera and a laser-range finder. But it was its mobility that earned them the most applause in the competition.
Competition was held in four different categories – rescue, soccer, everyday life, and a junior event.
“in the pas other countries were not much interested in us, but now they’ve begun to ask and learn from us,” said Dr Jackrit Suthakorn, President of the Thai Robotic Society.
Thai Cabinet agreed to Thai Robotic and Automatic System Strategies and give NSTDA for Progress.
Prof. Dr. Yongyuth Yuthavong revealed on 15 January 2008 that Thai cabinet meeting approved of Thai robotic and automatic systems which double role and important day by day in the world. Thailand has a large number of high potential staffs and youths, so the development of these research fields should be promote in appropriately with the manufacturing and service requirements in the country such as industrial robotic, military robotic, medical robotic, survey robotic and also entertaining robotic. The capability in the competence of developmental research should be developed as well, and also apply these robotic and automatic sciences via international. Initially, set developmental strategy plan in 5 ways- personnel development, technology development, technology transmission, industrial development and policy development.
